被子的英文是duvet，被單是duvetcover，這裡的被子指的是我們平常家裡用的那種白色棉被。

簡單點來說，duvet一詞在不同國家有不同意思。
在美國，duvet一般指被單，就是可以換下並拿去洗的那部份，但在英國（及部份歐洲國家），當我們說duvet時我們指的是絨毛被褥本身，而duvetcover才是被單。
duvet一詞在古法文是“絨毛”的意思，現在泛指asoftquiltfilledwithdown,feathers,orasyntheticfiber,usedinsteadofanuppersheetandblankets（厚絨毛制褥墊），所以我相信duvet一詞就是你所指的“（絨毛）被胎”。
